What kind of church is the Arvada Church of Christ?
We are above all a family of people submitted to God and committed to caring for one another. We desire to lead all people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Second, we are a church committed to the Bible. We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and that it is completely true and gives us what we need to live a life pleasing to God.
Is the Arvada Church a part of a particular denomination?
We are associated with a loosely-knit group of congregations called the churches of Christ. This is a voluntary association between congregations more than it is a denomination and thus no organization has a direct voice in how our church operates. All major decisions at the Arvada Church are made by the leadership and the congregation at our church.
What does it mean to be a church of Christ?
Because the congregations of the churches of Christ are all autonomous, one will find variations in how each congregation operates, but a few historic beliefs are generally accepted by the churches of Christ throughout the world:
- The Bible is the inspired Word of God and as such has absolute authority in the local church.
- The church is made up of baptized believers who have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Every person has access to God through Christ and does not need to go through a human mediator.
- A believer in Jesus is to be baptized by immersion upon accepting him as his/her Lord and Savior.
- The local church should govern itself.
- The local church should be led by a group of Elders or Shepherds.
What do I have to do to become involved?
There are many ways to get involved with our church family:
- Attend the Sunday Morning Worship Assembly
- Attend a Bible class (Sunday morning or mid-week)
- Join an Arvada Church Ministry Team
- Participate in a Small Group
What about membership?
Becoming a member is a way of indicating your commitment to the people and the ministry of the Arvada Church of Christ. To become a member, we ask people to meet with our Elders/Shepherds and share with them how they came to know Jesus and what their basic beliefs are, and to have been baptized by immersion as a believer.
What do you believe about baptism?
As a church we believe that baptism is for believers who have decided to follow Jesus as their Lord and Savior and is by immersion. We do not baptize infants, but we encourage parents to have their children dedicated, which is a public declaration of their intention to be godly parents.
How do you approach the topic of money?
At the Arvada Church of Christ, the entire leadership team is committed to being good stewards of the resources with which we have been entrusted. The Elders and the Financial Ministry Leaders are responsible for setting priorities in spending, and the staff and ministry leaders determine what funds they need and how best to use those funds to further their ministry. On an individual level, we believe that a significant portion of one's giving should be directed to the local church in which they fellowship. Giving to the local church strengthens the ministry, outreach, and stability of the church. All donations are voluntary and are kept in confidence by the church Financial Ministry. Annual statements of giving are available upon request.
